Lake Hovsgol such fish as "lenok" (Brachymstax lenok) or the Mongolian
equivalent of trout is quite easy to catch .These fish rely on the prolific caddis and
mayfly hatches, and terrestrials such as grasshoppers and crickets. Lenok average 65
cm(18-20 inches) long and are truly a blast on lighter fly rods. Larger lenok will dine on
mice patterns and streamers. As one fisherman, later dubbed "Lord lenok", put
it: "Why on earth would you cast gerbil flies for a fish like taimen that are so huge
and difficult to bring in when you can sight cast normal dries to 20-28 inch lenok?".
As for taimen fish (Hucho hucho taimen) or the river wolf & the king fish - we offer
trips to catch taimen in the area of Egiin-gol river that floats out from Lake Hovsgol,
Shishhid and Tengis rivers that are located in the Darhad conclave. In mst of the above
area you can also catch whitefish and grayling as well as burbot in Lake Hovgsol.
